I have a 1967 Cougar here at home that is a parts car for my dad's other 67. Well i pulled the engine out of it for use in my 70 maverick (1971 302). As we all know, unless you're totally stupid you dont use the 9" manual drum system from these cars on an engine that wieghs a considerable amount more than a 200 I-6. But the point is, would the cougar's spindles bolt up without any hangups (10" drums)? The Cougar has a manual brake system as well.

Also would its V8 frame mounts be compatible w/ my maverick's frame, as well as its tranny mount?

    Thanx for any input,
    Kyle

are you sure you don't already have the 10 inch brake drums in front? reason I ask is, My 73 2door with a 250 came stock with the 10 inch drums in front. just rebuilt my braking system.

aslo, the spindles from the 9 inch and 10 inch should be the same.. the only things you should need are the backing plate, drums, shoes, springs and possibly the wheel cylinders. all things you usually want to replace every 4 brake jobs or so.

    Engine Weights

Just for info purposes, the 6cyl Ford engine weighs in at 385lbs and the 221-260-289-302 group are 460lbs. A 75lbs difference should not affect springs or braking in these cars. The 351W is quite a bit different at 525lbs, this could pose a look at improving the front end assy. However, in safety issues, each individual must decide which is best for him.

Dave; I am using the six cylinder springs in my car, and the ride height is good. The only problem I have is the ride quality. It makes a bit of noise on the bumps. That may be because the springs are tired. I am going to go with the 8cyl springs later when I do the front end again. Later,

    Earl

The '67 Cougar and Maverick spindles are different part numbers. 70 Cougar and '70 - '72 Maverick are the same.

I had the same problem as you when I put a v8 in my '70. A '70 Mustang and '70 Maverick share the same spindle, so if you just get drums and hubs for a '70 Mustang they'll bolt right up to your spindles. I traded a guy an old aluminum intake for some. Ends up he pulled them off of a Mustang that had a 351, the drums are the wide ones with cooling fins.

so anyways.. I'm having a brake nightmare.. wheel cylinder seal keeps pooping off.. drivers side front getting too much pressure..anyways,why don't you just buy new spindles rotors ect. from a parts store?

I dont see the justification of buying the parts if i have them in my back yard and they could be rebuilt for less than half of the cost... but it does seem i will have to.

    Thanx for the replies guys,
    Kyle
