So i was swapping out springs on the 70 maverick and i noticed as i let the car down (upper shock not bolted down) the shock leans in towards the car. I can grab it and move it to center with a little force and bolt it down Just curious what that may indicate? The car had a v8 spring cut down 2 coils in it and it sat too low so i had another set that i cut 1.5 coils off of and put in to get the front back up a little. Any help is appreciated as i have no clue about front suspension. Thanks
That is binding from the rubber spring perches where the bottom of the shocks mount, this is where those "rollerized" spring perches come into play, removing the bind and allowing the perch to pivot freely! Many members, myself included, have installed their "roller spring perches", you will notice an improvement in how your car handles, the ride etc., well worth the money IMO.......... http://opentrackerracing.com/product/roller-spring-perches/ Their double roller perches, will totally allow the shock/spring to pivot freely! http://opentrackerracing.com/product/track-roller-spring-perches/ David
Well that makes a lot of sense.....im guessing while installing the new springs ive tilted it somewhat and its binding......im guessing after some movement while driving it will somewhat center itself again. Will add those perches to the long list of parts i need to buy eventually lmao. Im hoping to start auto crossing the car next year so ive got a lot of work to do
There will always be a certain amount "tilt" of the shocks inwards, just the design of the suspension, the rubber bushings on the bottom of the shock to perch will give as the shock tilts, plus the upper shock mount can also "pivot". The only way to allow the shock to totally center/pivot itself is with the 2nd link I posted in my last message, granted, it is expensive, but for those who are looking at auto crossing (like yourself in the future) they work great! Good luck and Happy New Year! David a couple of members have tried these spring perches too: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1960-1970-...5:g:4oQAAOSwux5YUMu-:rk:3:pf:1&frcectupt=true
If you have lowered the front ride height...Get the front end re-aligned or you will chew up tires...
Mavman yeah its on the agenda. The car isnt going anywhere for a while. I want to get all the front end parts done before i get it aligned and start driving it anywhere
