My 1974 bone stock 302ci V8 gets 10.7mpg on average. This is mostly city driving mixed with some highway driving. This car also has A/C so that may factor in. Does this seem like an accurate figure?

What does your engine get? Post it here!

My car is 302, C4, Holley, headers, duals and bone-stock, with 300:1 gear. I get about 16-18mpg combined, and I got about 18 or so on a recent trip. I also have Duraspark ll ignition, and I think that is the best thing I have done for it.

the turbo-mav gets around 12, but with no other carb tuning. Needs smaller jets for sure...but cant be too safe with the new engine. With the old engine, it got around 16-18 (302, auto). I'd expect around 14 or so the norm, depending on how it's driven and the general tune of the engine. Check tire pressures...they make a HUGE difference!

It all depends on driving style. You will likely average 16-18. Keep your foot out of it, and you might average higher. Crappy gas milage is something you get used to. Pretty soon you get used to passing everything but a gas station, and don't think twice about it.

For example, fuel injected 5.0's get great gas milage, I even averaged close to 25 mpgs on the way to vegas once.

However, I am a lead foot ( just broke the trans mount and both engine mounts in my mustang) As a result, I average 11 mpg with my injected 5.0.

On our trip to the round up we got 21-22 average and a high of 24 MPG. We have a T-5 trans 3.73 gears the engine is a 95 302 with 10 to 1 compression, edelbrock RPM heads, edelbrock air gap manifold, Holley 600 vac sec, E-303 roller cam, roller rockers, heddman shorty's, 2.5 exhaust, hooker arrow chambers, and dura spark dist with MSD-6 ignition box.

I think it will get better now becuase I've leaned the jetting alittle sence the trip. This engine has dynoed at 294 Hp at the rear wheels.

I get about 15-18 mpg. I usually drive pretty steady and sometimes a little slow (lots of cops around here)! Anyway as someone said in an earlier post, low gas mileage is something that you get used too. By the way I have 302, auto C-4, exhaust, intake, and new 4 barrel carb. My mpg went up after I did the rebuild and the bigger carb (used to have a 2 barrel). But hey it's a happy day when the mav gets 17 mpg!

Two 1973 LDO Mavericks (one 4 Drag one 4 driving like Mad on the roads :) ) also have a 75 6cyl Stock! Ok, well sort of Stock :P
Gas Mileage what's that? Your supposed to get Miles with mavericks? They should call it IPG not MPG....Idle Per Gallon

    9 inch 4000 Stall + 4:62 Gears + C4 + 750 dbl Pumper = 6 mpg if i'm lucky... but defiantly worth the sacirfice!

    10 inch 3000 Stall + 3:55 Gears + C4 with 11% 1st and 8% 2nd gear reduction + 700 dbl Pumper = 8-10 mpg avg

When one of my Mavericks was bone stocker 302 2 bbl with 140,000 miles with duels got no better then 13 mpg. You play you pay at the pump.

I am involved in an identical debate in a 5.0 mustang board.

At least we all seem to agree we get $%^# for gas milage.

Several 5.0 owners claim 29-32 mpg on the highway!!!!! I have gotten 23,34 but never that much.

made the first "long" trip w/ the turbo maverick, got 14 MPG, with way fat jetting. Also has 2800 stall converter in the c4, 3.00 rear gears, 600 double pumper holley. Still have a LOT of tuning left to do....should be capable of 16-18 mpg when "done".

302, 14* initial timing, Holley 600, Edel Performer intake, Hooker Super comp headers, C4, 3:1 rear.
I got 16/19 mpg, got worse when something changed in the gas a few years back.
I get 16/24 now with my AOD.
might could get a bit better, I haven't tried to tune it for milage much...
