So I'm looking to get out of my lethargic V6 Dodge Ram 1500 and into something that can tow my '71 on occasion and serve as my daily driver. I am currently considering: pre-96 5.8L F-150s and post-99 LS-based 5.3L GM 1500's. Any thoughts? I want: V8, auto, standard cab, short/regular bed, 2wd (4x4 is not a dealbreaker).
well ford will be cheaper, but the ls motor is a very strong runner, plus the bodies tend to be made out of better steel, haven't seen those rust as fast as both fords and gm older models
Standard cabs are few and far between. I favor the GM trucks. The 5.3 is strong and delivers good mileage. I get 16-19 with mine using that ethanol crap. Used to get 20-21 on the hwy before ethanol.
