A new all Ford, Mercury, and Lincoln car club has been formed in the area South of Raleigh. http://www.fullthrottlecarclub.com/joomla/ One of the sponsors is the Dunn-Benson Ford Dealership http://www.dunnbensonford.com/. There are members as far North as Creedmoor and as far East as Jacksonville, NC but most are from the Dunn-Benson area. Any Maverick or Comet owners will be welcome to join the only local Ford-oriented club that will have us. We held our first car show today at the dealership. I guess there were 35-40 cars there which I think wasn't bad for the first show with a questionable weather forecast. Weather held for the show but I drove thru a torrential rain on the way home. Fortunately, no hail but my wife reported we got some marble-sized hail at our house while I was gone. Would you believe there were two Maverick Sprints there?? I met the owner of the other Sprint at the Spring Carolina Collector Car Fest in Raleigh this year. She had seen my car on the road and rushed home to see if her's was still in the driveway. That's probably half the Maverick Sprints in NC at that little show. My Sprint got the Sponsors Choice trophy from the dealership.
Wow its rare enough to see 2 Mavericks at a show more less 2 Sprints, I guess you know what lights in the grill will look like in your car now. Congrats on the award
Yeah, I couldn't believe it when she pulled in. Yes, I checked the grille lights out. Think they'll look even better with the clear lenses and no bumper guards. Light buckets should arrive this week. Haven't ordered the clear lenses yet. Think I have a grille "Maverick" emblem somewhere but not sure I'll put it on.
That is pretty wild. Here is another North Carolina Maverick Sprint. It belonged to Bill Fife from Moorsville, NC. He drove it up to the MCCI 9th Annual Roundup Nationals in New Castle, Indiana back in 2002. Bill then sold the car to MCCI Texas State Rep Doug Bauer. Doug then brought the car back to the Roundup Nationals in 2003, again in New Castle, Indiana....but this time with Texas plates on it. Small World!!!
Way to go, Mr. Arnold !! Just set back and enjoy all the hard work that you put into your Sprint. That trophy is a testament to it. How many of those "ALL" Ford club members, did you tell about those "CHEVY" bucket seats, that you have in your Sprint ? Just kidding about the seats, CONGRATULATIONS ON THE TROPHY!!
Congrats!!! The cars look great together. Looks like she may have a brighter white on hers but still looks awesome!
Hey Charles, Thanks. When someone is interested in looking at the car I enjoy springing the Chevy seats on them to get their reaction. Haven't found anyone that reacts negatively yet. Jim
Yes, it was a very bright white on the other Sprint -- too white I think. Very little if any black or yellow in it. The Grabber Blues were very close.
Nice going Jim! Congrats on the trophy. Im not that familiar w/ the Sprints, the lady has a vry nice also. Ur car is a 72, what year is hers? The hood scoop looks to be a Comet scoop - did they come like that? How far u have to go to make that show? It is times/days like that makes all the work and effort seem worthwhile...
Everett, Thanks. Sprints were only made for three months in 1972. That decor was to commemorate the 1972 Olympics. Right, Comet scoop. No scoops on the Sprints from the factory. I think the smaller Mach 1 scoops, like Mavaholic has on his, look best with the Sprint hood decal/paint. Its an hour's drive to the Ford dealership where the club meets and the show was held. Good thing is its amost all Interstate so the car gets a nice run. Its happiest after a good run.
