Installed a new fuel sending unit and fill tube. Gas gauge doesn't read correct. Is that fixable and how?

In tank fuel sending units seem to always need some tweaking by bending the float rod I know it is an inconvenience to not show full but it is more important for it to correctly show empty even if it has a couple gallons left in the tank when empty. Some times its best to leave well enough alone as it is a hassle to drain tank to lower gas level pull unit bend rod put back in and then do it over again

I put 2 gals. in and check gauge. if not correct, I jack up drivers side and pull sender. after making adjustment, repeat process if needed.
I also install drain plugs in all my tanks...(an O2 sensor bung with oil pan drain plug works great for this).
