I recently removed my gas tank from my 71 Mav lots of leaks . I wanted to replace the tank but there's so much drama with the finding the old tanks and making necessary conversions for a new tank. I am debating about putting in a 16 gallon fuel cell can I get some pro's and con's on this idea. I know some of you have gone down this road.

    :feedback:Thanks, TonyJ

I only have one in my race car, but I'm not sure you can get a fuel guage in the cell. also it'll probably take up a lot of the trunk room unless you build a frame for it to drop into. May not be big things now but they tend to become a hassle later on.:)

http://gastankrenu.com/ This is the way I would go! Cheaper ways of doing it, but My opinion none better! Fuel cell gonna cost more money till you get all made up and get gauge set up. renu will patch all holes an make like new with the coatings you never get any rust in gas from water in tank! Moyers in Greensburg Pa does excellent work! Good Luck

I spoke with a Renu company here in Rockville, Md (no Flintstone jokes please) the cost to blast the tank, inside and out, seal and recoat would cost between $299 -$499 with a guarantee. Its then a matter of setting the tank in place and hooking back up the lines. Seems like the simplest and most logical thing to do.

What drama is there in buying a new tank for a 76? All you need is longer bolts from Home Depot or any hardware store. The vent hardware is still available from Ford. Total cost for new tank and hardware about $120 And that's a lot cheaper than putting a band aid on an old tank

Read Mavaholics article using the Mustang tank. It will also give you more clearance for dual exhaust. Mustang tanks and senders are very cheap!

Check with your local radiator shop. I had 2 quarter sized holes in mine along with hundreds of pinholes. A rad shop in town soldered and recoated the tank inside and out for around 140.
