Help me out here folks! Ordering a PowerTrak Locker rear end (8")and am waffling on the gear choice. I am planning on driving this car a few thousand miles a year, little freeway driving and mostly put-putting to shows and the track MAYBE 2 or 3 times. (been there, done that when I was younger!) running a C4 with 3000 stall (sees about 2700rpm). Single plane manifold with a predator carb and a cam in the neighborhood of .575 at 110* seperatoin duration around 280 (I think, installed it a looong time ago) Currently have 3.00 and the car will light em up at will. Tires will be 275-60-15 which are 28" tall and yes, they fit into the wheel wells. I was leaning towards 4.11 as the motor runs well between 2500-7000rpm and I don't mind the cruise on the freeway at approx 2800-3100rpms. But also, the 3.91's look like a good fit. Comments? Scott
Gears Wow, with that combo you have I would definately go with at least a 4:11. A track only car would probably need more stall and more gear too. Just my opinion though.
Old Guy So, ou feel tat for a stret "toy" with occasional highwa use the 4.1's iwl be a god gear? I know it i not perfct for the 1/4 but that only b a few tims. And I reall pln n taking m foot out of it round 550-600 rpms thee day. Just a toy nw, not daily driver. Thanks for the input Sctt
I am going with 4.11's this winter in my mule. I am going to do the occasional street driving and I do not have plans to put it on the interstate, but I figure I can if I have to. My dad has 4.11's in his ranchero with a 460 and its alot of rpms for the highway, in my opinion.
After 25 years with a set of 4:11's I changed to a 3:70 this year. I like the change in every aspect, and once I get the car dialed in, I will probably run a better E.T. The biggest change is it runs about 600 -700 less rpm's on the road. Dan
I am not sure that Dan's car can truly relate to yours. He has a toploader. With the 4.86's that are currently in mine, I went through the traps at 7,800 rpm in the 1/4.
I am running 3:89's with a top loader although that shouldnt make any difference cause the 4 speed and automatics all have a 1:1 final gear. I go through the traps in the 1/4 at approx 5700 rpm @ 108 mph and 13.02 et. A good set of slicks should make mine at least .5 seconds faster since starting line traction really sucked.
Sorry, did not think about that. But it should still be different...shouldn't it? I mean its taking you 3 shifts to get to 1/1. Where as the c4 only has 2. So the RPM's, I would think will not be the same. Cause he is going to be at 1/1 longer? right?
