The little 300 in this truck http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=58859 is tired and needs replaced. Since $$ is tight, I've been looking for a good 300 to plop down in it and just drive. But for some reason this just isn't happening. situation #1- a guy on the local CL advertises a running 300(still in the truck) for sale or trade. I drive over to check it out. It's a sweet sounding, running motor. I offer up a 302, headers,v8 frame stands and some nice valve covers for trade, since he's v8-ing the truck. He agrees and I'm stoked. Never heard from the guy again/won't answer his phone or return my calls. strike one. situation #2- a guy says he has a good 300 in a truck, you can hear it run. And he likes trading, which is good since cash is at a premium. I go over to "hear" it run only to discover the carb/ fuel pump are missing.:16suspect Strike two. I've got a couple more 300 prospects to check out, but if there's a strike three I'm gonna get agitated and put a 460 in it, complete with C9ve heads, Stealth/700 dp and headers. It's already got a 3.90 or 4.10 gear, so ridiculous burnouts and single digit mpg are sure to follow if I go this route.
My dad swears by the 300, still drives one today. Funny thing about those engines is they all sound the same. I could lose my sight and still know when a truck with a 300 drives by.
Sorry I'm not trying to hijack your thread but the 300 in my truck leaks oil at the back of the engine and I assumed it was the rear main, but do you think this could be the oil pan? I didn't know that the oil pan leaking was a common thing on these.
