I'm getting to the point that the engine and tranny are coming out of the mavi. Would it be safe to say that I can pull the engine and tranny together with my 1000lb lift? Also, any tips or pointers on pulling are well appreciated!!

That's what I use to pull mine out with, a 1000 lb. rated Power Pull. It helps to take off the fan and spacer, pulleys, brackets, etc., so the engine can come front all the way without hitting the radiator support. Other than that it's pretty straight forward. Good luck.

I've got everything ready except the tranny, should I just unbolt the whole xmember, or certain bolts,if so which bolts? Will the driveshaft come clean out of the tranny or will I need to pull some bolts?

Disconnect the drive shaft from the rear end(four 1/2inch bolts) then pull the drive shaft out of the tranny. If you have not already drained the tranny fluid, I would do so. If not when you pull the motor and tranny together all the tranny fluid will come out the back of your tranny. As far as the tranny crossmember goes. I always support the tranny with a floor jacket or block of wood, disconnect the crossmember. Or you can just unbolt the tranny mount and pull it out that way. But either way the crossmember will have to be removed(or atleast one side off and moved out the way) to get it back in.

    Will,
I pulled mine yesterday with a 1000 pound lift together as a unit like you describe, I disconnected the driveline, removed the x-member and drained all fluids first as suggested, it all came out fine with the exhaust pipe, starter, tranny, all still together. Mine has a cat-converter so I disconnected it before the cat and the pipe ended about the same length as the tranny.

Here is a pic of a hoist set on 1/2 ton lifting a 250/auto trans combo out.

Here is a close-up of where the chain hooked to the lifting bracket. The bracket is bolted to the intake manifold.
