Can anyone give me some information about the headliners in a 77 Maverick? I am wondering if you need to remove the rear window like you do in mustangs and cougars. Its a pain and I hope the Mav's are not like that!! Thanks.

I hate to burst your bubble, but they are the same. I haven't had to do it myself on either of my Mavs (Thank God!!), but I'm told that you have to remove the glass to do it properly.

Yep, the glass needs to be removed (windshield and backglass). It is a pain to do, but if you're doing a resto and the glass is out already it makes it easier. Thankfully that was the case for my car. I hope I never have to do it to this car again, let alone finding the correct material for my LDO interior which is much different than the other Mavs, unfortunatly. (Thanks again for the lead on SMS Auto Fabrics, Dennis!)

I do believe that most engineers and designers in the 70's had their heads up their butts. They gave little thought to what happens if you have to fix the stuff they put out there. Disco dulled the senses.

    Headliner

A number of years ago I purchased a headliner from AC and thought about putting it in myself. After hearing the glass had to be removed, I said nope and took it to a local shop to do. Explained the situation to the owner and he said he could do it without removal of glass. Had the tools to do the job, I says "how much" answer was 65.00 and come and get it in the morning. Upon arrival at his shop that AM, was holding my cheeks shut for fear of insertion and a crappy job. Went to Mav and lo and behold you could not find a nicer job. Someone on this board in Memphis saw my post on it and he took his Mav to the same guy. Ended up having him do doors etc. Might check with some local shops in your area and see if there is someone who can do the same thing. Just a thought, the shop here is Harper's, Upholstery Conway Arkansas. It still looks great and with these Arkansas summers of heat and humidity, I thought it would have fallen by now. As the others have stated, on total resto or paint, the glass should be out anyway. Good luck as always.

Thanks, I will ask around. As you said, windows may have to come out anyway but it is worth a try.
