    Hi all,
Based on the threads I've read here I'm thinking my issue might be the headlight switch.

    1974 Mercury Comet

Issues: My turn signal indicators in the cluster and the high beam indicator work but my dash lights don't.

If it is the headlight switch, can it be replaced without removing the entire dash?

    Anything else it might be?

    Thanks all in advance!

Have you checked your instrument cluster fuse?

I checked the fuse a few months ago and the fuse itself tested good - just started driving the car again so now it's bothering me again.

Could be the fuse block I guess but seems less likely to me.

It's not uncommon for light switch to cause no dash lights but otherwise work OK..

Thing to try and not remove cluster.

First turn dimmer back and forth about 15-20 times, often it will have corrosion that is removed by movement. If you are lucky there will be at least a "sweet spot" that lights illuminate.

    If that doesn't fix it

Assuming it still has the stock radio plug, connect a five amp fuse across the two contacts. With this connection the dash lights will illuminate with Ign on(or at least should). Because of bad sw, mine have been hooked up like this for a couple years. If fuse blows there is a short somewhere in dash light circuit, transmission quadrant, ash tray light etc.

I will give that a try! Not sure about the radio plug. The PO wired the radio for constant power and I haven't checked out how they did it.

If it helps, I found out today this is what the radio power plug looks like

Hey Tom, can you tell me a little more about connecting the fuse between the contacts now that Roger sent the picture above? Were you saying connect the fuse to the contacts in the fuse block for dash lights & radio or connecting a fuse on the plug itself?
    Thank you!

Jumper the connections on radio plug together with a fuse, Ign power will then power dash lights. Yes it's just that simple, no poking around fuse box, no pulling cluster etc etc. If they don't light with jumper, problem is probably in cluster.
