My mechanic told me that while I am using the A/C I should install a cutoff valve on the heater hose to not allow the flow during the summer. He states this will keep the interior of the car cooler. Has anyone else done this? If so how does this help?
All factory ac cars have this valve. It just goes on one of the heater hoses and is controlled by vacuum from the vacuum switch on the dash panel. ITs purpose is to keep heat out of the heater/ac box so your condensor operates more effeciently cooling the air. If your car has factory ac, there is a molded plug with 2 vacuum lines that come out the firewall just to the left of center, and just below the firewall/cowl seem. The large hose goes to the vacuum storage canister and the small hose is the signal to close the cutoff valve.
Thanks Mavoholic. I think that is why he wanted me to put in the valve myself as we had to disconnect the broken switch anyway to force the air to come out the vent instead of the defrost vents. Were you the one who had an extra switch? I would be happy to pay you a fair price for it plus the shipping cost. Is there a motor also that would need to be replaced?
