hey. i need help badly. i have found a 74 2 door maverick with 46k original miles on it for 1000$. Is it worth it. all i know is that it needs paint but other then that seems to be fine. also what are the best upgrades for this car. I dont know much about mavericks so any help will be great. thanx
jump on it if it drives ok runs ok shifts ok stops ok. welcome aboard! this is the place to be for everything maverick
Here's how i value a Mav ... 1) if the body is straight with no rust its worth at least 400 bucks ...2) if the interior is cherry add another 300 bucks ...3) if it runs and drives good add another 200 bucks ... 4) V8 add 100 bucks, 5) low miles add 200 bucks ... I know thats by no means accurate but then again i am polish
Cool, my car is worth $1000. Does the low mileage count for original only or does a rebuild add 200 also?
reply all the miles are original and thanx for the advice guys. im goin to see it today. ill try to go by your system 76 mav and thanx again.
76 Mav: I like you system for valuing Mavericks. How much do you subtract for 12 inch spring shackles? Cobb County Georgia, wasn't that where the "Big Boss Man" of the WWF as from? "And now, from the Cobb County Georgia Correctional Facility, ..." I especially enjoyed his uniform shirt, the sergeant stripes were upside down. Tom
Geeeezzzz, my Sprint is only worth $1200? LOL, Actually its not a bad price guide when looking although I'd give a little bit more for the V8.
Value I think a bigger chunk of $$$ should be added for a rust free car since they are pretty rare and the biggest expense during a restoration to fix it. Don't forget to add additional for special versions (Grabber, GT, Sprint, Stallion) and perhaps a bonus for original paperwork, like title, warranty card, window sticker, build sheet, etc ...
Hey Mavaholic I would double that price and give you $2400.00 for the sprint!! Ok now you can LOL Terry AKA Bossmav
hey my mav only has a 6inch by 6 inch square of rust where the old owner kept his anti-freeze...lol..
I guess I got lucky! As determined by the "price guide", I had found a 77 Comet in SC 3 years ago, and it was as follows: 46K miles, almost no rust 1 owner- little old lady- died 2 years prior MAJOR rust in tank-only problem w/ car - got a good one from AK and it turned out to be a '76 tank with 19 Gal cap.!!! Front power discs A/C P/S 302 with original fan belts (originality can suck on fan belts!) Mufflers w/ D6 part #'s Copper w/ tan interior and brown vinyl roof. They had to get $700 for it! It now has a LDO interior (front & rear seats & door panels) and a warmed up 302 and floor shift. Even luckier- the seats were from a Mav of the SAME color, the steering column was also the same tan color (different sources) Some small rust spots popped out on trunk lid and that Mav was also the same exterior color and had a prefect trunk lid!
lol Mavaholic your sprint is in a class by itself lol ... I wasnt talking about project, restored or special option (grabber, sprint, stallion) mav's i was refering to the run of the mill maverick that is in decent used condition ... You know the ones im talking about ... Has some scratches, dings mabey a rip in the seat or a cracked dash. Prolly needs a brake job or the muffler is held on by tie wire ... leaks oil out the sending unit ... you have to pump the gas 7 times before it will start in the cold ... Usually has some sort of Jesus Bumper sticker on it ... ya know the run of the mill Maverick ... Actually tom The big boss man is a regular at the restaurant where my wife works ... Ive met hime there once ... He's not a very happy person ... In fact he acted annoyed when my son asked him for his autograph ...
