    previously had a 74 4dr with a 302, now I own a 74 2-dr with a 250 engine
    Ok heres the scoop.
    I have a 74 2 dr with a 250 C4

I got it in march..and its beautiful.

I was working on it for the past couple weeks, changed

    the fuel filter-and pump
    water pump
    radiator
    belts
    thermostat
    spark plugs
    distributor cap

so, you can see, for a girl, this is a bit of work.

    but some issues Remain

The car started running fine after the work..
    however.. it shakes a lot.
should i look into playing with the carb
what do i do (my question mark doesnt work but im asking questions here)

also.. i looked under the car.. and noticed a big puddle of transmission fluid.
    what do i do
    am i screwed or what

    help me por favor!!!

    thank you kindly

    Sara,

    Good to see you on!

As for the "clunk", it really sounds like a U-joint. Did you change them both or just one?

What is shaking? The engine or the whole car?

If you pop the hood and the engine is shaking badly, then both the shake and the "clunk" come from a broken or worn engine mounts. You can pick them up at any auto parts store for about $11.00 to $14.00 each.

One way I like to check it is to wait until the engine is very cool, then open the hood, reach over a fender & grab the engine. Pull it to and from you (side to side when viewed from inside the car) and see if you can move it without moving the car. If you can, then you know the mounts are shot.

Transmission: Keep it at the required level no matter how bad it leaks. If you let it get too low then you'll trash the transmission.

If you don't have any issues with the way it shifts, etc then I would take it to a local transmission shop for a "re-seal". They will replace all of the gaskets, O-rings, etc and make sure it is leak-free. This happened to me (!). Anyway, expect to pay between $100 and $150 for this from a reputable shop.

    Hope this helps!

    Tracy

Hi Sara, I see you changed the dist. cap.
Are you sure you got the wires back on so the fire order is not changed? That will make the engine rock and roll for sure!

Yep, I have a dead cylinder and a half in my 302 mav, and it idles like it wants to jump out of the engine bay
