just wanted to say hello to everyone.the reason i am writing is that i just drove my new toy home.a 1970 ford maverick 2dr. it has the 200 six, three on the tree.42,000 orig, miles.just bought it from the orig.owner.(95 years old).the car sat in a barn for the last 18 years on blocks.this car is orig.down to the spark plugs. i changed the plugs, oil, filter, fresh gas,and about three squirts of starting fluid,it took off into a nice low rumble idle.filled up the master cyl.,messed with the brakes to get me by,and drove it home for 47 trouble free miles!in side is like stepping into a time machine, not a mark anywhere!all black vinyl, with not even a scratch on the dashpad.out side i guess it would be called a sky blue?surface rust on the bottom of the fenders,no holes.drove it home for $300.i used to have a 71 mercury comet,2dr.same setup that i sold about 11 years ago.(still kicking myself in the rear for that one.)regretted it ever since.but when i got behind the wheel today, and started shifting gears going home, those old feelings, and memories were sitting right beside me the whole way.oh well i just wanted to say hi to everyone, and vent a little bit.too excited to sit still!happy motoring. chuck.
man i must've got ripped off...either that or cars are just more expensive here in CA...i got a beat up ol' 73 that runs like crud for $300 a few days ago...i envy you man.....really..i do..
Nice catch!!!! Some of the best deals ever are found with older people who don't drive a lot. I am really dying to see some shots of a good original mav, especially the interior. Whatever your plans are for the car, there are many people here who can help you. Good luck and have fun.
I bought a 71 with only 60k from the original owner for $300 but it isnt near nice as yours. Mines 99% rust free but it sat outside all its life and the interior was totally toast. The paint is gone and the body is got alot of small dents and dings. The clutch was gone also. Thats mainly why she sold it. Still I think it was a major buy for $300. I think you got the best deal I ever heard of so far. I also got the original 71 title with mine which DMV let me keep when I reregistered it in my name. Mine is a 170 with 3 on the tree. I have since found a factory floor shifter which I installed. It also has zero options. Not even a radio. Got ant pictures of yours?
pictures will be coming very soon.jeremy,i will get you some shots of the interior.mavaholic, sounds like you got a killer deal on your maverick.i like the hubcaps you have on yours.orig.?the only option i have is the orig.am radio.i got the orig.title, window sticker, and all maint.records,up to when the gentleman stopped driving.i can never seem to figure out how to post pictures.would someone be willing to let me send them some pics and post them for me?the only way i know how right now is to send them private, and i would like to post one on here. let me know if anyoneone would want to.thanks guys. chuck.
you can send them to me and I'd be glad to put them up for ya. I took the hubcaps off and put the full ones on. I never cared for the dog dish ones. Send pics to: Mavaholic@aol.com

You could always join the Maverick and Comet Club International. (MCCI) Your not too far from me. I'm about 1/2 hr for Youngstown. Here's the web page. Russ http://www.maverickcometclub.org/
thanks for the info russ,i will be looking at it this evening.are you a member?also do they honor cars under construction, daily drivers,or just mint condition examples? thanks chuck.
The MCCI accepts ANY 1970-1977 Ford Maverick or 1971-1977 Mercury Comet. It doesn't matter what it looks like or what has been done to it. We have lots of members in Ohio.
Here a couple of pictures of the interior that inline6 sent me of his interior. This looks like one cherry car.
