My first car was the 1970 maverick I still own. My parents bought it brand new with the 200 cid engne and gave it to me in high school in 1982. (saved me from a certain Camaro death!) Well, I had an old 302 I was playing with in auto shop and wanted to stick it in the Mav. As you know, there was not an internet resource back then and dad and I spent months under that car putting it together. (wouldn't trade that time for the world). we made our own motor mounts, 3/8 solid steel! and confiqured a transmission brace for the c4 etc.. After blowing the top off a few radiators and a rearend or two , we got it fiqured out. My question...Now that I know about all these parts, do I change anything? we have no 'frame crossmember" don't even know where it would go, no V8 motor mounts and I hear of a midplate some of you run? Don't have one of those either. The car has gone high 12's and I have ran through three engines and gallons of N20, no problems. i did replace the motor mount bolts with grade 5 rather than the standard hardware bolts I could affors in high school. (boy, were they ever bent!) Sorry to be so long, but would you guys change anything?? Scott

If it works good, dont fix it. As long as its safe, of course.

Sounds safe to me with all of the time and drag runs you have on it. I say "If it ain't broke...Don't fix it".

Necessity is the mother of invention. You applied it to your car, sounds with the history you have that it has proved its safety and soundness. Good ole American ingenuity, gotta love it.
