I'm new to the forum. I have a 1974 4dr, LDO, 302, with 51K miles. The horn bar on the two spoke steering wheel came loose today on one end. When I took out the two screws that hold it to the steering wheel, I discovered that the plastic bar supporting the switch strip is crumbling, and the posts the screws go into have disintegrated. The wheel and the rest of the horn bar are in good shape - so what is my next step?

This must have happened to a lot of these, and I imagine a used one will soon have the same problem. Reproduction woodgrain trim surrounds are available online, and other interior parts, but not this plastic piece that goes the width of the hornbar, supporting the horn strip and vinyl cover. I don't know if I'm explaining this well, but thought I'd give it a try. I didn't see anything in the forums, but then I'm not very good at finding the right words here to search!

Do people just epoxy everything together, drill two new holes, and hope not to take it apart in the future, or are reproduction plastic backing plates available?

    Thanks

It is actually melvins catalog that acornridgeman linked. But a lot of maverick parts are made by DC.
