I am starting diesel mechanics in a few weeks. I am running a little short on money so I am going to take in my box. I will have about $1200 in toos in it and am wondering if anyone knows how to make a locking device for them. It is one of the craftsmen ones. When I got it it had bars to lock it but when I was about 10 I learned I was strong enough to bend steel
Once I bought a heavy duty canvas tarp with brass eyes and made a cable that I weaved thru the eyes at the bottom and put a lock on it. I would make it tight at the bottom so it couldn't be lifted. With a welder or some fancy additions you could add a bar down the face. If your willing to drill the drawers and top and bottom, drill a 1/2" hole thru all of it all the way down and use a piece of stock solid rod with eyes drilled on the ends. Flat would work also. You just gotta make sure all holes line up and use lock on top and bottom. I would do it towards the front too. put the same type bar on wheels (front-to-back) turn the wheels sideways to install locks. this way they will have to drag it to move it...
Weld a tab on the top and bottom of the tool chest. Drill or cut a hole in the tabs to insert a rod or 1" flat stock. The rod needs a hole close to the end for a pad lock, the top of the rod needs a stop or tee handle so it won't fall through the hole in the tab
