Like the subject line says . . . how can I tell if a particular '70 Mav is a Grabber or not? I'm looking at buying one at the moment. Whether it's a Grabber won't make or break the deal, I'm just curious. Now the boring, trivial, Why-I'm-Here stuff. My first car was a 77 Mav. My dad (a mechanic) picked it up for a song when I was 16, and after a little work (like welding the frame back together) it was my absolute pride and joy -- for about two years, until some drunk idiot in a pickup ran a stop sign and plowed right into the side of my Mav. It was totalled and I was devastated. That was about ten years ago and I still have this yearning for another Mav. This '70 might be the one. Thanks in advance for your replies.
maybe as far as i know they never made a 70 grabber and i think the biggest engine that 70's came with was a I6 250 i own a 70 myself it had the 200 but putting the 302 in was very easy, just a drop in i may be wrong but from what i've seen thats the way it is.
thx for the response . . . (more) I didn't think they made a '70 Grabber either, but when I googled '70 Mavericks I got tons of hits about '70 Grabbers. So I thought I'd ask. Do you (or does anyone reading this) know what distinguished a Grabber from just a regular Mav? Thanks again.
Having owned a 73 Grabber and currently a 72 mav.... The only difference I know, is cosmetic (and about 200 lbs weight). The pre 73 Grabbers had a different hood (grabber hood) from 73 on it was only stripes, trunk, and fins. You can tell if it is a Grabber if the id sticker is still on the drivers door jam, a grabber body stile has a "D" in the body type
Grabber info Grabbers were made from 70 - 75, could be had with any engine package(170,200,250,302), came with the Grabber hood in 71 and 72, had spoilers from 70-73 and can be identified with VIN containing a '93' for the body code. The 70 had no 302 or special VIN, but it had the spoiler.
Grabbers I think 70 Grabbers also had black grills and Sport Mirrors. They had the spoiler, stripes, and a black interior.
