I need new tires for my truck. 275/60r20. I have had 2sets of good goodyear hp tires then two bad sets. Now running bfg long yrail hp and 2 were good, other two are wearing quickly.

I usually use discount tire. Are other suppliers selling better tires?

What are good brands to choose frm?

Expect some opinionated comments on this, most not based in fact but on personal views and past experiences.
Product quality in one line one manufacturer can vary greatly.
That being said, some brands tend to be more , reliable than others for quality control and product specs.

I used discount tires in the past, due to not being able to afford a better life tire. They lasted 2 seasons, but only got 10k of the 30k rated life.

I personally if you can afford higher life tires, get them.

I use COOPER Tires when I can afford them. Due to them being very close to the expect life /wear specs. Factors such as speeding, under/over inflation can shorten any tires life expectancy so always be aware of that factor.
Perfection Tires, in my City has COOPER tires at a great price. Try calling around or googliing for tire prices in your area (y)

Find a small tire shop in your area...You will usually get a better deal on a good tire than you will get at the big chain stores...(Firestone and the like) Truck tires in general...Ignore the mileage rating...It doesnt apply to light truck tires. Religious rotation and proper maintennace will get you the best life/wear out of a tire. The more agressive the tread the shorter the life expectancy. If you want a good reasonably priced tire for your truck try getting a set of General grabber hts's. Very good long lived truck tire. Mastercraft courser ats' are also a very good tire. Stay away from Price club tires from places like walmart/ sams club etc...

    So, let me guess...............you have a dodge..................right?
I have an 08 Dodge Hemi and have had it since it had 7k miles.........it now has 47k miles. The stock Goodyears were noisy, wore funny and only lasted for 35k miles.......they had some left, but I got a real good deal on a set of Michelin Latitude Tour HP's and they are very quite, handle better in both dry and rain.............I am very satisfied with these. I bought them after doing a lot of research online and looking at the same tire on my wifes 09 Toyota Venza.........245/50/20's that now have almost 60k miles and came on the car when it was new............she drives fast and corners like she is driving a race car and I have them rotated every second oil change or 6k miles..............they are just coming to the wear bars now and the same kind will go back on.....although they are almost $100 more a piece than mine.........................shop around and you should be able to pick them up for $220each for the 275/60/20. The other thing is I had my old Goodyears rotated every second oil change.....6K miles...........and when they came off I had the front end guy look at the tires and make adjustments to the factory setting based on the wear he saw on the tires..............I have put 12k miles on the truck and the tires look as good as they did when I put them on.........................IMHO

Ouch, those 20's are expensive! Just another reason I don't want a new truck! Give me 15's or 16's !

Scoop, I can't say on those type of tires, but I've always had good luck with BF Goodrich and Uniroyal. Michelin is good, but very expensive. I put a set of Hancook's on the wife's Grand Cherokee, they seem to be wearing real good. Goodyear sux in my opinion, never wore out a Goodyear tire on anything, they always wear odd, dip out or edge wear, and have to be replaced or they blow out the sidewall. I've had everything from 14" to 24.5" Goodyears, and they all did the same things. I don't even trust their retreads for the big truck, they're crap, oo.

Michelin LTX MS. The new version is a very nice tire. Had 3 sets of LTX on my 4x4 Cherokees. All 3 sets went over 100000 km each. Thats mainly HWY mileage. Never went out of balance more than about 1/4 over lifespan. We install these on as many trucks and suv's as we can. They dont come back to haunt us. Worth the extra money for the mileage to me.

    Yes, a dodge.

I know beter than sams or walmart. My dad has done that and several threw the tread within a coiple weeks.

That is what got me wondering if discount and some of the chains also get low-end tires.

I only have 35k on these bfgs and i consider two of them shot, so i am willing to pay more for a tire tha will get more miles than these did. And if i am not mistaken, these are rated for 60k miles!!!!

Sorry for spelling and capitalization on this thread. Using cell phone...

So, are Pepboys, Discount, etc selling good tires? If I get the michelins from them, are they as good quality as Michelins from the little guys?

I know the ones they sell to Sams and Walmart are crap, but those usually have a little bit different "model numbers", like Wrangler HL rather than Wrangler HT.

Those michelins are $100 more than all the others. But I just might do it if they last anything near the 70k miles. I paid $200 each for tires that died at 35k, so if I get 50k for another 100 bucks, I still come out ahead.

Goodyears and BFGs are all right around 198 each, the Michelins LTX/MS are 298 each.

The cheapest Michelins I found were 238 but they were their low end ones.

I don't think there are different grades of the exact same tire. I've found Costco to be reasonable, my last set of LTX's came from there, and their price was the best around.

I have Goodyear Wranglers on my F150, won't be long till it gets a set of LTX's.

I always pay the extra $$$ for Michelins. They last forever. I replaced a set on my Silverado after 75,000+ miles. They rotted and cracked before they hit the ware bars. Same with my Wifes E250 HA. But thats the way the Sun treats tires down here.

Pep boys tires are the same as "THE LITTLE GUYS" or specialty tire dealers.
I have never seen Pep boys sale the low end price point tires that walmart/sams club and yes alot of SEARS now sale.

Easiest way to check is call get the model number and check though... (y)
