but don't know what an "airless compressor" is. I've heard of airless sprayers.

"my father has an airless compressor and that bad boy is super loud. I grew up on a farm in Southern Maryland so the noise of a compressor was never a concern. Recently I just moved to San Diego and I am positive that an airless compressor or a direct drive would be a great way of pissing off my neighbors."

I'm in the market for a new compressor and was wondering what ya'll recommend...:Handshake

    :hmmm:

I wonder if he is talking about an airless paint gun, like those loud electric Wagner jobs.

I think he meant "oil less" compressor. I have a Coleman Powermate that would wake the dead! It works great, but is the noisiest compressor I have ever heard! :D
Sorry I forgot to answer your question! My friend has a real quiet compressor that's a 60 gal. I'll be going over there later today and I'll find out what kind it is. I do know that it's a two cylinder, belt driven, upright compressor. :)

If you are looking for a quiet compressor check out GMC Compressors. I have one and it is so quiet you can have a conversation while it is running.

There is such a thing as "Airless" Compressors...They a re used in industrial applicatoins where demand will overpower a standard compressor which stores a certain amount of air in a tank. They are loud since they are basically big turbines. No holding tank necessary...They are awsome but...$$$ and loud.

My friends compressor is a Coleman Powermate also. It is a 6.5hp Professional. You can stand right next to it and talk! Funny that my oil less one is so much louder!

They are tankless - they make as much compressed air as demand calls for without storing it (up to their rated cfm that is).

here is a cutaway view of the compressor

I have a Craftsman that is virtally the same....only complaint is the noise it makes. I have had it for about 8yrs, and it has been flawless.
