so feel free to laugh at me :D
i've been on this board before but haven't posted for a looooong time... also changed my name so you wont remember me..

anyway i currently have a 74 4dr mav with a 347 stroker, but i'm thinking of getting a 2 door so i can shove a t-5 behind my 347... kinda a "restomod" thing... maybe some nice 17"s or so...

anybody know if a t-5 will fit under a 2dr mavs tranny tunnel? or how hard it is to get a t-5 in a factory stick mav?

thanks and i'll enjoy reading more :D

Put a T5 in my '70 about 5 years ago. Originally had a "3-in-the-tree". Because the T5 has a hump on the top to hold the internal rail shifter I had to cut a long narrow slot down the middle of the trans tunnel, bend the sides up a little and recover with new sheetmetal. Easy, and when the carpets in place you don't even notice. Had to move the crossmember rearward a couple inches and had a custom driveshaft made. You can use the original speedo cable, just replace the driven gear on the end. The swap is well worth the time and effort. I have 3.89:1 rear gears and a warmed up 302. Coming back from the roundup in Indiana this year I drove 75 mph all the way and got 22 mpg. Overdrive is great!

it may be easier on the 74.
Before I put in my AOD, I read the 74 tranny tunnel was a bit larger than the 70's.
I am debating the swap to a stick, but unless I trip over a T5 real cheap I'm aiming for a Tremec 3550.
    nice tranny.

I am gonna go for the AOD next year, and put in my 3:55's. The C-4 in my car now is great, works fine and is strong and shifts hard. But...only gets me about 18mpg. Overdrive would be great. BTW, how much of a problem is the tunnel on the '70 to modify for the AOD? Thanks,

    Earl

OD would be sooooo nice on my car.... i dunno soemthing about me and how i treat my car just doesn't feel "right" cruising at 3500rpms doing approx 75-80 on the I25...

thats why i'm considering the t5... that and if i do a t-5 i can get away with some 4.10's behind *hopefully someday* a nice posi 8.8 or maybe a minispooled 9inch...

dunno about the AOD in a 70, there *was* a website that showed step by step in a 70 or 72.
he cut the tranny tunnel out and replaced it.
I didn't have to do any of that.
as far as gears, the 3.55's still won't be enough gear IMO, on a basic stock engine with bolt on's.
1800-2000 rpms gives the best milage, start pulling hills around here at 1500 or below, you're better off in drive.
