Or is it getting harder to go down to the local parts store and actually get the part you need? Man, some of these guys at these stores............
It's getting harder to get Maverick/Comet stuff, since the last ones were built 32 years ago. But I find with the other parts I need, NAPA is always my best bet.
NAPA around here seems to have the most knowledgeable people behind the counter....especially on older cars. My local PEPBOYS has one guy that helps me from time to time........but like me (us) he is into older FORDS.
what works... I have found that what works best is to look up the parts first for yourself online...such as autozone for example. It will tell you by zip code if they have it in stock...then when you go in you can make sure they are looking under the right category on their computer and you know the price before hand. Has worked for me...
no problem here, the only problem is getting parts for the engine that wasnt original...77 granada...i havent seen one in years
I'm on first name basis with most of the guys down at my local Advance Auto. When I go in there looking for something, they just let me look it up on the computer myself. Can't stand Pep Boys, my local Pep Boys is a joke, their customer service is terrible.
I think the biggest problem is a lot of the younger counter people are not car people. If they cant find it in the computer, they have no clue. People are like parts, you get what you pay for.
hey hey now im olny 22 and was working at napa. i knew more that half the other people did "most were twice my age" .... youngsters not being car people geez....
I think this is the main problem myself. I went to oreilly a couple weeks ago asking for an accelerator pump diaphram for a holley, the kid walked over to the parts bin and started thumbing thru some unwrapped base gaskets. Napa sent me the wrong parts twice last week.
Exactly,great on the computer,know nothing about cars.Not just young guys,some of the older ones are clueless too.Around here,biggest problem is if it ain't no 350 chevy(or a honda civic nowadays)they know nothing about what you're looking for.Had a guy ask me once if a Comet was a Dodge.
You guys just live in the wrong places..... working at napa i was just a stock boy / delivery driver.... i cross referenced parts for people. its not the youngsters its the lack of intelligence. Allot of parents dont teach their kids how to work on cars also high schools are loosing autoshop classes every where. i'm sorry to say this but kragen has this 55 year old man working here that suposedly raced fords for 20 years... he didnt even know that a 250 six head couls swap on a 200, im sorry for going on and on i just am trying to proove that its not the age its just the stores want to hire some low payed worker so they dont have to pay extra for experenced people that do know what there talking about... i stilll get the 30 year olds complimenting my "nova" asking if its got a "350" wy cant we just shoot them.
when i took the mav up to les schwab they drove the car into the shop and immidiatly after he gets out he says "you need to get your brakes checked" i just about started to laugh funny part about it is we had replaced the brakes completly the day before and thats why we were gonna get some tires for it now. he apperently has now knowledge of anything besides disc brakes lol...
