I am installing a pioneer head unit. The constant power wire that the unit needs I am getting from the thick yellow wire under the dash, I checked it and it's constant on. The power it needs after ignition is on (red) I got from splicing into this also thicker brown wire (with either green or orange tiger stripes) under the dash. I checked it and it turns on only after I turn the ignition switch. I have pictures below, did I do it correctly?

    thanks

i am almost sure that the red is constant power and the yellow is ignition.

either way use the one wire from the stock harness and the other just run it to the fuse box... use a test light to find out what is a on/off with the ignition.

The yellow is the constant 12V and the red is the ignition on. The stock harness which is the black wire powering the radio was ripped out from my car so I can't find it anywhere.

I've already done all the testing and for sure the yellow and brown that I mentioned that come off under the dash are constant 12V and ignition, respectively.

I just want to make sure that splicing into them like that is OK. Everyone says get it from the fuse panel but is it OK if I get it a little further out from the fuse panel, like the way I did it?

ok.. you see it there i don't.. lol! so yellow it is....

but but personally i don't wouldn't trust 30 year old wiring... ;) remember newer head units are drawing more juice then the stock unit. i'm sure your pionner is a mosfet unit.
