Alright, some of you may have heard this question before, but I could'nt find any info on it so here goes. I'm getting to the final stages of putting my 302 into the mav, and in order to use the headers, I've been told that I will need to switch to a floor type auto-shifter. What I'm wondering is, It looks like the linkage(?) for the column shifter is what is in the way, and since floor shifters use cables instead of rods(some of them anyway), is it possible to switch to a cable for the column shifter? I mean to replace the rods? I appreciate any advice, and sorry this was so long. Thanks, Preston

    Cables

Sorry, the cables will not be able to push the selector lever rearward like the rods do unless you have anchor bracket like the B&M assy on a floor shifter. Then you would also need two each to retain shift pattern on the column shifter. By the way, what gear ratio are you looking for to fit your 8in? I have several sets of used ones in various ratio's somewhere around the shop.

I have a column shift and headers. I found a longer linkage out of another ford and reshaped it to form a sideways "U" around the collector. Shifts fine.

    My .02 cents worth...

I found the installation of the B&M StarShifter to take about 45 minutes and works like a charm (cable-acutated). Other than drilling a hole through the hump, no problems ;)
