Has anyone used the 4 Leaf, leaf springs sold by JC Whitney. Do they raise the height any? Do you need longer U bolts? Any problems or adjustments needed?
I never used the JC Whitney but I did buy the 4 leafs from ESPO and they raised by back by about 2 1/2". You shouldnt need longer U bolts. The spring is only about 3/8" thicker that stock. http://www.springsnthings.com/
nope i used the 3's they were fine... heavy as hell too... but they fit but i rearched them anyways... however i would say the 4 leafs would raise it don't you think
That's what we have on our car, if I remember right with the stock car I had to put 1.5" lowering block. I would recomend the springs Dennis has because they are matched for spring rate.
JC's spring I have the 4 leaf JC Whitney spring on my Maverick, they bolded right in and I've never had a monments problem with them. Hope this helps. Terry Gates AKA Bossmav
I put them in about 4 years ago. There can be front bushing/bolt size differences but solved that by using an additional inner bushings to fit the bolt size. Stiffer- yes. Higher-yes. If you lower by about 2", it is advisable to go to the next larger size U bolts because the stock size gets to be a little long and light if a lot of power and slicks are used, for saftey reasons. Just drill out the lower plate holes.
I recently put those on my mav and they work great, ride height is good also. I also ordered their shackles but JCW never got them in stock and had to be canceled
What is JC whitney and where or how could I get a catalogue up here in Canada I have had a few sets of springs made or custom made at a shop that does spring service for trucks . Both for street use and for track cars . I live in a city with about 200 000 peoples in it so I am guessing you could do the same if you live in a big enough center ?
I have the JC Whitney 4-leaf springs on "Pegasus" and they really made a difference. The cornering is now substantially firmer and the ride height was just right. The old springs were sagging badly. Good price, good product, just don't buy engine parts from them Good luck on your project, Tracy
I have them on my car, along with heavy duty shock absorbers. The ride is very stiff for the first 100 or so miles but then softens up a bit. But it is still kinda stiff, if kids ride in the back go with the 3, if the car is just for you and seldomly do people ride in back definutly go with 4. The back of mine sits about a inch and a half to two inches higher than the front. You can actually see out the back window with decent visibility, my old leafs were saggy and all I could see were headlights. The ride is much better, handling is MUCH better (my old leafs were saggy though, I don't know how much you will notice) The raise in the back gives it that meaner stance without going overboard and without the redneck look of shackles They are worth the money! Here is a link to a pic of my car, not the best to show the amount of lift but I will put on a better pic a little later. javascript:newpop('picwindow.php3?image=rudy_dollard_70_mav.jpg&name=Rudy+Dollard&year=1970&make=Maverick&model=2+door&id=453','no','no','no','no','no','no','no','no',1018,448,250,150)
