I have Maverick fever . . . I had a 71' Mav when I was younger, but didn't have the money or time to restore. So I let it go. I have never stopped dreaming of what it could have been!
I am partial to the 69.5-73 models, any major differences or preferences? I figure I will probably buy one with a 6 cylinder and have to swap in a an 8, and make other modifications. Suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your input!

P.S. I am new to the board, and just want to say Wow! What resource! It's great to see so maybe people excited about Mavericks like I always have been!:)

I think you are going to enjoy this project and all the info available on this board. Selection of year models is a toss up. Availablity and such, some like the small bumpered early ones and others will take to whatever sparks their enthusiasim. For show or go? Maybe both. Myself I would make sure to get the 5 bolt wheel pattern with 8inch rear. Check for cowl vent leakage and general condition of body and interior. Power steering and AC is a matter of choice but I found that the old std. drum brakes and steering work just fine for me especially when modifying engine and trans stuff. 302 and C4 are a norm for these cars and the easiest to do. If this is to be a complete restoration on your part, take your time and be patient, the frustrations involved are just part of being a gearhead and car enthusiast. Some people are better off letting a more exsperienced person do the whole job. Whichever way you decided to go, the end results are well worth it. Have questions, post them here and these guys on this board will gladly try to help, I even bet they would give you some hands on help too if they should live close. Good Luck on your endeavors.
