I have a mallory unilite distributor laying around and was wondering how good these distributors are. i have it in my 5.0 ranger but i can never seem to get it timed or tuned right (i probaly dont have it set up right) i am swapping injection into the ranger and was thinking about using the distributor in the comet so i can get rid of the points. What do you guys think? should i put it in?

Over a month ago I put in a Pertronix Igniter into my 74 Mav IL6 250.... The Pertronix may be similar to the Mallory. So far it works quite well except when the car has not warmed up. It takes a 5 mins. before the engine is hitting on all six.
Give the Mallory a try, but don't throw away the points.

I too use a Pertronix because it has a magnetic pickup. I'm always wary of the Unilites because they use an LED trigger and regardless of what Mallory advertises ("a beam of light doesn't wear out"), an LED can go bad. I work in electronics and I see it happen all the time. Like the previous post said, don't throw away the points. I still carry mine just in case.
