manual 3 speed column to floor shifter

    73 maverick 302 manual
    hi there ive got a 73 maverick with 302 its a column shifter and i
    have a generic floor shifter conversion kit
    im just wondering if itll be an easy swap over or if theres possible problems i should be aware of


    anyone know how i can chek to see what transmission i have its a 3 speed manual came in the 73 302 maverick

    About the only problem is you must put your current trans in reverse to get your key out of the ignition. You will have to rig that reverse arm at the end of the steering column to remain in the reverse position. Then you will also have to put a backup light switch on the new shifter or at least disconnect it from the original switch so the back up lights dont stay on.

    '70 Maverick Grabber
    Most conversion shifters sit further forward on a bolt-on bracket and can interfere with the crossmember support that goes around the inside of the tunnel. The one I had also sat more to the side so that I had to cut a big hole in the side of the tunnel. That was on my '70 which has a slightly narrower tunnel. A cleaner installation would be to use a tranny or tail housing that can mount a factory floor shift.
