Where is the neutral safety switch located on a manual trans floor shift. not sure if its on the trans or on the column, Can I assume there is a rod from the shifter to the column to lock the trans in gear like a column shift automatic. I'm sure the reverse light switch is mounted on the trans.
I think only the automatics had a neutral switch in these old cars. I don't remember one on the older 3 and 4 speeds.
AFAIK beginning 1/1/70 Fed required a safety switch for manuals, so basically applies to locking columns(also date they were mandatory).. As I understand it, ignition will not turn to start unless shifter is in neutral. Basically mechanical vs electrical. This is at least part of reason the box '70 Falcon was was discontinued. Like early Maverick, those had in dash ign switch & non locking column. The 70½ Falcon was a somewhat cheaponed Fairlane but did utilise the locking column.
