I decided today to replace the bushing that keeps the clutch rod hole from getting stuff in the cab. (which mine was since it was gone). It should have taken five minutes but no...When I detached the clutch pedal assembly from the z bar the pressure piece that goes on the transmission fell off (fork rod into the itch fork- I guess) and now no matter what I do I am short an inch of space to get it back on.

Help me, please. there is probably a trick to it, but in my 3 hours working on it I could not stumble upon it.

Just from trying to recall working on my 67 Stang 30 something years ago, there's another return spring up inside the dash you have to work against. That's probably what's holding you up here.
