Anybody ever build a manual wheel balancing stand? I am thinking about making one for my car and motorcycle wheels? Lets here it and post a picture if so Thanks
Last time I used something like that was back in the 70's. As I recall, it worked pretty good though.
I think Homier Dist sells a new one for about $50. Not sure if they have a web site or not, but I know they're a seller on eBay all the time. They also have the traveling tool sales, as a matter of fact, they're in Tuscaloosa this weekend.
The old balancers are pretty good but can be tricky to get the hang of at first. Also IMO if your going to be doing any high speed driving you would probably want to go ahead and have them high speed balanced at a tire shop somewhere.
Good Point! You dont think a manual balance is good up to 80-90 MPH And be relative safe?? You would just feel a hop... no more than a balance weight falling off?
it would be iffy at best to balance a bike wheel on a balancer made by homier, or harbour freight. first off, how ya gonna get the hub seated? the smallest they accomadate is 1.5 inches. you need to turn down a center section to fit in the hub with a taper. then make up some sort of fixture to hold the bubble on top, so you can actually perform whatever adjustment if any is needed. making it wouldnt be hard.. but... is it gonna be worth it to you? ill tell you what. i build all my spoke wheels from scratch. and i guarantee them to be within .005 on a circumfrance. in and out. that does not include rim variances on stamped chrome. if your runnin spoked wheels, ill build em and you wont need a balancer.
