In my journeys to car swap meets and ebay, etc, I have noticed a couple of different gas caps. Did all Mav's come with Maverick gas caps, or was it just an option? I have a 72 mav, which one would be correct. I found this very nice one on ebay and am considering buying it.

here is the second cap that I have seen, i actually have a slightly worn cap just like this. Is there any other caps? Not sure what the story is behind these. I think they look very nice.

The "toothed" cap was a fancy option. The Comet got the same caps except for the Mercury Logo.

Ken; If anyone has a toothed cap like the lower one for sale, mine is worn and faded. Do you or anyone on the board know if anyone or any company reproduces the anodized insert in the cap? Thanks,
    Earl

I have 3 of these caps. Know of no one that rebuilds the centers at this time.
The center is held in by small push pins that are of very hard steel and almost never able to get them out to get the center removed. I took one apart by disc grinding the heads off, and was going to devise a way to remount the center if a renewing procedure was found. I'm sure that there is some one in Hemming that could do these as well as the hood insert. Just didn't persue it.

earl, i got that bottom picture from ebay. That very gas cap is running right now for 50$ for another day or two. Quite expensive, but...look at the quality, do a search under maverick gas caps.

Earl, sorry Iv'e not responded faster. I'm chasing anti roll bar and supercharger on another board. Got a Kenne Bell twin screw coming for my 5L Mark7 and installed a Mustang front bar on the Mark. What a difference. If you want a cap I would consider it. It is a Comet Cap in the center. I got to many things going on!!!!!!

Ken; I think I will hunt around for a Maverick cap, and use the one I have until then. It is a bit rusty around the seal and flange, but it works. Thanks, and I will get back to you.

I have a gas cap that came off my 76 mav looks just like the top photo but the gasket is gone and I cann't fix it. If anybody what to trade for a cap for a 70 mav that works.

I also have the orginal locking cap that I use on my 75 mav.

    "Fancy Option"

    So Ken,
By fancy option did they come standard on LDO Mavericks and Comets, and were they an option for all other Maverick and Comets? Just curious. Thanks.

I have no sales brochures that indicate what options could be ordered. These caps were standard on some options like the Comet GT for example. I'm sure someone has this info for you.

    Thanks

Thanks Ken, I wonder if any one know what options could be ordered on what car. That would be really cool to see.
