Check out this article that is in the December 2003 issue of Hemmings Special Interest Auto. It is in a column that does book reviews. I didn't know Shorthorns was considered a book!!

    Great press all the same.

Well, any publicity is better than no publicity. Wonder what he thinks sophistication is? By definition, to be sophisticated, means to be knowledgable. Who is more knowledgable than us?

Pretty cool! Maybe I am bias here, but Maverick/Comets being barely remembered! Maybe some truth, but unlike some other cars of the 70's if you mentioned the name Maverick or Comet people know what car you mean, where as other cars people don't remember them at all.

I find it quite interesting to be able to stand outside of the Mav/Comet box and look in from others viewpoint.

That's great to see that in there.

We have to remember, for us maverick owners, we live eat breath, drink, and sweat Maverick. There is not a day that goes by in our lives where our maverick doesn't cross our mind at least once.

However, for the other 99.99% of the population, the maverick is forgotten. Bring it up, and sure, they remember, but for the most part, you almost never hear the word Maverick come up in a conversation amongst car people.

That is what I treasure so dearly about my Maverick.

WHile I do own several mustangs, they are trendy as all hell. It is really nice to hop the border, and work on a less trendy car.

I hope some people see that article and join the club.

One thing that irritates me is that all my friends and family can never get my car straight.....the knowlegable ones refer it as my Maverick (not that there is anything wrong with Mavs...I love them) and others have called it a Pinto, while some just say "that car of yours" When I talk about my beloved "hobby car" at work, people ask "oh, what kind of car is it?" When I tell them its a 72 merc comet GT with a 302 in it.....I get this blank look....the deer in the headlights look....they don't know what the hell I am talking about. Just wait till spring when that baby rumbles down through town......then they shall be set free!!!!

Dont you really hate that one? I have a 57 Ranchero and I hate when it's called an el camino. I quickly educate them how Ford had produced the Ranchero 2 years before chevy copied it. Besides Ford made them for 22 years straight. the "c" guys stopped in the early 60's. Took them awhile to figure out how stupid they really are.
