What year did Ford start putting the mod motor in the mustang? How about other models? Now that I have a MMll front end for my Comet GT, I'd like to find a completer wrecked car and swap everything over. Its got to be a 5 speed, no automatics, if anyone has something to sell.

mustang was 96. Tbirds got them in 94. And i think the crown vic got it in 92. I really like the Mark VIII 4V 4.6 versions. They had about 300 HP From the factory. And they can be found at just about any JY. Another favorite for hot rodders is the navigator 5.4 4V(about 400TQ factory). But they can be hard to find depending where you live, and if your lucky.

I've been thinking of doing the same swap, I even have a line on a 32V motor. After thinking long and hard about it, I figured I can get gobs of power from a 302, with loads less work....plus a 302 still weights less than an aluminum 4.6 (from what I can find on the net)

I'm not after high performance. Just something that runs great and is out of the ordinary. I've been checking the local craigslist and I can pick up a complete and good running 96-97 mustang GT for less than $3500. They are usually over 100k miles. That would be the ticket to swap in the whole engine, trans and FI set up. Plus the bucket seats are real comfy. Might even shorten the rear and use it too if I find the right candidate.

100K miles is nothing for these newer motors, I've looked at a few with 600000 Kms, and still run like a top, and use no oil.
I think were thinking the same thing, for a project....that's why I bought the running 96 Explorer, it's going to be a "Pluck and Play" I hope...
What gets to me, is the Mustang shop I hang around for Sunday coffee, always has cheap Mustangs they are stripping out...all insurance write offs, and they get them pretty cheap.
I was at an auction a few weeks ago, and a 97 Lincoln Mark 8 went pretty cheap, I had to sit on my hands, so I wouldn't bid, and it was pretty clean.

Unfortunately all the Lincolns are automatics. Would they sell a complete mustang? if so, how much?

Its fairly easy to swap a five speed to the lincoln engine. Also to convert the ecu. If your set on a mustang engine i would at least get the 99+ ones with the PI heads.

Me an a friend of mine built a Lincoln mark VIII with a T45 5 speed. We had to make an extension box to move the shifter back 7" so it would come out in the right place. For the clutch pedel we used one from a thunderbird SC and for the slave cylinder we used a fabricated bracket and a chevy s10 slave cylinder. For the ECM we soldered resistors in line for the MLPS so it would stay at neutral and had a custom chip made to raise the rev limiter to 7,000. Also changed the gears to 3.73 with a track-loc.

When I get a chance I'll post up some pics of the beast. I also have another complete mark VIII engine and trans with the ECM and wiring harness ready for some sick creation. The nice thing about the mark VIII engines is that they are tecksid blocks and can handle upto 1600hp. You could probably get one into a maverick by just shaving the shock towers. The majority of the head is on the inside (intake is narrower).

lincoln blocks are awesome but the cranks are still cast... since you said youre not goin for crazy performance it not a big deal.... the mark 8 computer system is a little easier to adapt into the maverick though since its eec 4 like fox 5.0s instead of eec 5 which is gonna have PATS and all, although you can tune that out... and with a tweecer rt you can just change the trans info for a 5speed on a lincoln computer...

you can do the gt motor too but its a 4.6l 2v which if your looking shock and awe factor... doesnt look quite as good IMO

one thing to think about tho is cost of maint... 5.0l=cheap... 4.6l 2v=less cheap... 4.6l 4v=kill me now expensive

    food for thought

When i had my 4.6 2V out i took measurements and it wont fit. You have to move the control arms outward at least an inch on each side and shave the towers. I made a thread about it. But he doesnt have to worry about that hes already got a MII setup.
