Hi all, I have some questions about an engine I am trying to get together. I am putting it in a Mustang II (I know, it's not a Maverick/Comet but these Mustangs are getting rare and hard to find not to mention this one was free from a cousin) and I have some questions about the combo. I have had people telling me that the induction won't work on the street. I don't think they understand the old tunnel ram and I know some on here are running rams. It is the old offy with the dividers in the center. Some say overcarbed but I had a flat top 306 that had a 950 holley with a victor jr. and it loved it. I just don't want to get it all together and then be sick. Any help appreciated.

I have traded for most everything for the motor. Here is the list.
I have a summit brand (scat is cast in one of the throws) 3.25 stroke cast crank
Eagle 5.4 rods
KB740 331 forged dome pistons
Offenhauser old school turbo thrust tunnel ram
2-600 holleys with the spring kits and balance tubes (need rebuilt)
Comp xe284h hydraulic flat tappet cam
541 lift intake
544 lift exhaust
284 duration intake
296 duration exhaust
240 duration at .050 intake
246 duration at .050 exhaust
Motorsport billet 9 position timing chain set
2200 stall Mustang II converter (this was behind a 302 so should stall more if I am correct)
Edelbrock performer aluminum heads with 60cc chambers and 1.94 1.60 valves
Headman stainless steel headers
Clevite bearings and perfect circle plasma-moly rings
Nothing has went to the machine shop to be checked out yet (Money situation)
I was thinking of having the domes milled off the pistons. I am afraid I will have too much compression. I am going to use the Mustang II little bellhousing (142 tooth flywheel)and I don't want hard starting problems because of compression.
Just want some input and your thoughts on the combo.

Need more info about the car. What is the intended use? Thirty-five years ago a friend of mine ran 2 x 660 Holley center squirters on his 289 but that was a manual trans 66 Mustang with 4.11 gears. I'd rather see better (bigger) heads on a 331. The 1.94 valve Performers are barely adequate for a warmed up 302. On the other hand, if your just gonna cruise around and go to car shows you can pretty much run whatever you want.

A 351 would be nice but these cars are very tight under the hood anyhow. Besides, I already have the 331 stroker stuff.

A 351W is not that mush bigger. IIRC its a couple inches wider and taller. There's guys on here who have them in their Mavs with the stock shock towers.

If you build the engine with the parts as you have them now, you will most likely need more than a 2200 stall converter, you will need a decent low gear like a 3:55 or lower, and you will probably not be happy with the performance.
