motor id

    hi guys,i just came across a 302 out of a 73 mustang.owner is claiming that it is a 302 boss out of a 73 mach1 mustang.is there any special markings,numbers,or anything specific to look for on this motor?and location,heads,block,etc.any help is appreciated.drive safe...chuck.

    I ma not positive but I don't think Boss 302s were made in 1973. At any rate, if it is truly a Boss, the motor should have Cleveland 4 barrel heads on it. They look total different than the standard Windsor heads in that the exhaust ports in the Boss heads are much larger than stock and they are canted valve whereas a regular 302 head has inline valves.

    thanks fredh for the feedback.i did a little research through my old mustang and ford magazine's and read that the boss 302 was discontinued for the boss 351,for racing in 1970.i can't seem to find any #'s anywhere on this thing.engine looks great and runs as good as it looks,but i would like to find out what exactly it is and what year it is before i go plunking down any funds.is there any special places to look for the casting #'s,and date codes?thanks and drive safe...chuck.
