Just wondering what mileage you guys are getting with the 200 6 cyl. I have a 6 cyl fairmont with a h/w 5200 carb . it is 4 speed and a 3.08 gear. I just filled up and have been flirting with 20 mpg. today I went over 20 mpg in city driving. I have power steering and am thinking about going manual to help mileage. i have removed the smog pump,and advanced the timing is the only other things done.
what kind of ignigtion are you running. getting rid of points and going electronic would definatly help if your not already there. might sound dumb but i'd take everything out of that car you dont neet to lighten it. any BS you have in the trunk or w/e. these motors arent exactly full of tq and hp and the less it has to work to get you moving the better off your mileage is going to be
first realize this is an 80 fairmont, so it has the ds. I don't carry anything in the car except the spare and jack. just wanted to know what mileage the mavs/comets were getting.
my 250 mav was getting about 20, maybe a little less around town. high 20's on the freeway. i took my 250 comet on a 130 mile road trip last weekend and it only costed me a tank of gas
Uh, you do realize a '76-'77 Maverick/Comet gas tank holds 19.2 gallons, right. Let's assume you filled up with six gallons in the tank. That would be a 13 gallon purchase. Divide that into 130 miles an you get 10 mpg. You must've used just half a tank.
i try and do it the same every time. i divide my complete gallonage into my complete driven miles. that way you can average it out over several times.
oh wow. no it was about 70 miles each way. i filled up before i left. cruised at about 50-70 mph and when i got there i was almost at half a tank, but not quite. it takes me about $25-30 to go from E to 1/2 tanks
My '72 has been getting very high 20's hwy. lately. It has a '71 200 that just hit 40,000 original miles, C4, 2.79 rear. MSD ignition with platinum plugs, header, the exhaust Y's off into duals, Carter RBS carb off a 250, and it has an electric fan. I check the air pressure in the tires at least once a week, and keep them at 40 PSI, which is the max rating on the sidewall. I drove it to NC and back on 4th of July weekend. The car was on empty and I stopped and put $30 worth of gas in it, gas was $4.01. It gave me just a hair over half a tank as read by the fuel gauge. I went 209 miles before I was on E again. This was about 98% interstate driving at 65 mph. I can't wait to get the 2.3 Mav on the road. I'm hoping for low 30's...
i wish i was getting the mileage yall are i'm getting 7 mpg in my 250ci but i need some new rings so that could have something to do with my low mileage.
I think my 72 got around 15mpg when it had a 250. I had a heavy right foot so that could have had something to do with it
Our 72 is a 250 and gets 25-27 mpg. The condition of your engine, the state of tune, tires and both of your feet have control over your mileage. Of those your feet have more effect than anything else.
