I found a Mr. Gasket 3-speed (manual) shifter at a parts store for $40. This would be to swap it from the column to the floor, not saying its a performance upgraded or anything (though an improvement). So is this any good? It's made for most Ford/Mopar/GM 3-speed manual transmissions. How much of a pain is it to install?
If your current shifter is on the column then your transmission probably doesn't have the correct tailshaft housing for bolting on the shifter. In that case the conversion shifter kits usually have a bracket that you bolt on the trans to mount the shifter. That will usually mean cutting a big hole in the driver's side of the tunnel to clear the shifter body. Often the shifter handle is not centered in the tunnel. A neater and easier way would would be to change to a tailshaft housing with the correct mounting holes or just change out the whole trans. 3 speed manuals are a dime a dozen and the end result will look much nicer.
The shifter has a bunch of backets (for Ford/Mopar/GM I guess), from what I've heard, the column shifters aren't that great, but having under 120hp, theres probably no need for quick shifts, it's just a little more convienient. I'll check out the options though. Thanks for the input.
