I had some original round cylinder, straight thru-glass pak type on my car when I bought it. They were too loud for me,removing them was one of the first changes I made to the car. What's to loud for one person, maybe, just what another desires.

I personally care for the way glasspacks sound too crackly, also flowmasters don't flow very well. If I was going for sound out of the two I would get the flowmasters. If flow is what your after get a glasspack. I like dynomax ultraflows, basically a glasspack without the crackle, they also don't drone terribly and flow way better then dronemasters.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
I've used tons and tons of mufflers, my experiences are as follows

    For a V8:
If you want obnoxious loud at idle-WOT 40S Flowmasters( but they flow like crap like Dan mentioned)

If you want an old school sound glasspacks, but they get obnoxious at mid-WOT plus they get worse once the fiberglass wears out.

Turbo mufflers are my favorite, they sound nice at idle-cruising speeds, but when you go WOT they're as loud as any other muffler.

For a budget you can get cherry bomb turbo mufflers for $20 at any parts store, for performance the dynomax super turbos flow like crazy.

    Dual 2.25-2.5" with the above.

For a I-6 straight though mufflers pretty much suck and make the engine sounds like a tractor, I tried a bullet style muffler, a magnaflow(which is just a glorified glasspack) and a 40S flowmaster . I was never content with any of them.

Ended up going with a cherrybomb turbo II and it was my favorite. I have sound clips if you want to hear them.

I would go with a single 2.5" pipe on a six, or a single 2.5" to a dual outlet muffler then 2" pipes out.

If you decide on flowmasters get them at a junkyard, I pick up a used pair for $40 vs $200 for a new set.

i had glasspacks..used for about an hour and cut them off. seriously too loud, i ran my car with open headers for the break in and then put exhaust on - i couldn't notice a difference and was scared to drive it because i knew i'd get a VI from the cops. never will put them on any vehicle again..i couldnt even talk to my dad right beside me while it idled..let alone driving it. i went with magnaflow but a lot of people like flowmaster..anything is better then those damn glasspacks! you will be happy as long as toy stay away from them.

I spent $200 getting magnaflows put on my 302 before I had headers and couldnt stand them from the first time I started the car. needless to say the next purchase was a set of headers. as of right now Im running open headers and love the sound but WAY too loud for street use for sure! Im going to try some cherry bombs I have that I got for free and see how they sound with the headers. Ive considered running straight pipes all the way out the back off the headers but it will still be super loud.

I want to use cut outs so I can run headers until I see a cop then I can hit the HUSH button to switch back to mufflers.

my son likes the magnaflow from my v8 on his IL 6 it sounds a little more beefy at idle but Its still on the week side. it still sounds like an old six when you step on the gas.
