Hi guys, I found this site while looking at a maverick that was for sale & the deal fell thru. This is a good forum & although I dont have a maverick, I am not leaving, lol. I met some people at a swapmeet that were really into racecars. We statted talking and I found out he has this Mach 1 that he got in a trade. With any luck at all this car will soon be mine. The history of the car is it was backhalfed 20 years ago & live a life as a racecar, out in VA. With a SCJ 428 & C6, it ran constant 10.20's & served the owner well. This thing sits on 15x15 Lines with 15x3 up front for that old school look. I am about 90% certain it is a real Mach 1, but need to go back & look at the fender tags to verify what they read. Either way I am very interested in the car, since it is a rust free body, although it has no motor/trans, glass, doors, interior, lol. The grill, bumpers, Mach 1 Hood w/o the shaker are all in great shape. My goal with this car would be to ultimately bring this back to its original condition with new framerails, floor pan, etc. Until then, I want to make it a Prostreet daily driver. I am looking for input as to a drivetrain to use. I am wanting to make this a turnkey car with a mid 90's or newer donor car for motor/trans/electronics. Who here has done such a conversion or knows of such. Any input would be appreciated, Guy.

Of course, this site is the best group of guys out there, seriously, but the Stangnet is actually made up of several members from here and is a very close second to the quality of this board. maybe im not seeing the whole story but if your intrested in buying a gutted modified race car with the intentions or making it stock again, idk but that just seems like taking alot of steps backwerds when youd probably be better off just investing in a stock car if it is a real mach 1 that doesnt have its original motor and has been so highly modified away from stock all they way down to its foundation, how much of the "mach 1 value" is really there any more?
Machs are just so darned expensive anymore that folks are scraping the bottom of the barrel to get affordable projects. They aren't any kind of rare, never were, never will be, but they are overpriced. So you get a kind of mania when one pops up for relatively little money. It's a double edged sword... you are getting a deal on a desireable project, but wow, is it going to be expensive in the long run. I guess it is a function of how much you have to lay out initially... Most folks can't afford the buy in price of a decent Mach anymore.
I agree 411, although Mach 1's are not scarce, they are way overpriced for a completed car. I am in the process of building a softail chopper that my GF has NO INTEREST in. When we went to look at this car I watched her out of the corner of my eye, she was all over the Mustang, lol. The bottom line is this, it is a project that we can do this together & share the final reward. Although I know going in to this project, I will be into it more than what it may be valued at, I will have alot of fun doing this restoration with her & the kids.
