all restored to original, has a 200 six with 120,000 miles. would like to find new interior door rests as the ones in the car are faded
My guess is the car is not an ORIGINAL Maverick Grabber. Post the first 5 digits of your VIN and we can tell. Your car should have the small skinny bumpers....not the big ones. You car has the interior of a 1971.
can i buy the small bumpers new or do i have to find used ones.ive been looking at all the stuff that came with the car and i cant find a picture of one with big bumpers on it.what other differences should i look for.
based on the vin it's definitely a 71. Some safety-conscious person (ie whacko) must have swapped the larger bumpers on. It's also got a 76 or77 grill in it. You can't get them new, unless they're NOS, and if they are, you'll pay through the nose for them. But, the swap is not all that difficult to do. You'll need the bumpers, brackets, valences, fender extensions, rear endcaps.... and anything I forgot to mention
Cant really tell from the pic, but is there a spoiler on the car? Correct me if I am wrong, a 71 Grabber would have a spoiler on the trunk. MAybe the dash and interior was swapped into the car. (we have seen that before). Do you have a picture of the parking break? 76 and 77 had a different parking breal than earlier Mavericks.
I'll post a pic of the trunk later ,it dos come up ,but I dont know if you call it a spoiler. As to the car itself I know its a one owner ,an elderly friend of my mother. He had someone out of state do the work.Idon't know if he will remember having the bumpers changed or not.but I'll bet thats what happened he seems to be the kind that would do it for safty reasons.Im having alot of fun with the car and making it original(or as close as i can get)wilbe fun also.I appreciate all your help and comments
That is definitely a VIN number for a 1971 Grabber. Somebody could have switched VIN plates on ya??? Who knows. Bring it to New Castle, Indiana in July for the Maverick/Comet Club Round-Up Nationals and we will be able to tell you. http://www.maverickcometclub.org
Doors Those are early doors from 69.5 to 73 and it looks like there is a package tray instead of a glovebox. Probobly someone put big bumpers on. Nice paint.
If this car is a true 71 and someone swaped bumpers they would also have to swap the front fenders or the notch for the small bumpers would show. I'm betting its a 74 with a 71 dash and doors. Also is it even possible to have a Grabber spoiler with a big rear bumper? You would need some special quarter extentions for the spoiler. Who knows what happens to a car over 30 years. This is very interesting. BTW its a very nice car even with out the mystery. Russ
