Went to the track in Havana IL today,,, first time on track all year. Got a call from a buddy late last nite and we decided to go. They were having super street ET day. First pass went fair,, but ran slower than usual... thought mostly from not being in practice. The car was loaded up and did some poppin and snortin on first part of track and then smoothed out mid track. I never looked at the tach once, and felt I held out on shift points too long. But I was just making a shake down run to see how the track was and yadda yadda. Second pass I dumped the clutch and bam!!! I smoked the rear end. Oh well I was going to change it this winter anyways. Here is my time for my one and only pass.
    .785 reaction time......snoooooooooooze
    2.285 60ft
    8.65 ET @ 594 ft
    9.204 1/8 ET
    82.40 1/8 MPH

Oh yeah,,, decided to drive to the track,,, didnt want to mess with the trailor,,, you guess it.... I payed $150.00 for a rollback to pick me up.... oh well I had fun watchin the others.

    More Dragstrip Luck

Just got back myself, what a sucky day. Started out with a shop towel being sucked into the ram air tube to the carb box and causing horrible sounds to emit from engine, backfires, pops and such. Fouled plugs cleaned and back to a normal 302 again in my Fairmont, first pass was not bad, 1.61 60ft and a pitiful .608 light. A 9.57et at 103mph. from then on every pass got worse, adjusted staging positions, air pressures and stall speed at launch. Nothing worked, the track had gone sour and traction was not to be, as you know this affects reaction time too, did get a .580 the last run but bumped in a bunch and the car just sat and spun to the tune of 1.690 60ft. Got the win on a red bulb in the other lane. Forgot to mention the pass before this one, ran a 69 Camaro with 7.89 dial. I had dialed a 9.59, staged and such waited for the tree to come down and low and behold the Chevy blew out of the box and then my tree came down as he reached the 330 mark. I was dumbfounded and went ahead with the run at half throttle, his win lite was on and I was highly pi****d. Got to the et shack and the fellow gave me the slip and said to go back for a rerun next round. They had dialed me at 5.89!!

Got back to pit and steamed over it a bit then cleaned off old dial in and painted a 9.59 in large shoe polish across the whole winshield, could barely see enough to stage on the tree but did get that .580 and the other fellow got his red light. Last race day had .497 and .460 and .489 reds, week before that was nailing .520's all day. Thats the way my luck has been but racing is still fun. Will try harder next week for it is double points and I am in the top ten so far!!!!! By the way those times are for 1000ft that we run here. A can or two of the golden liquid here at house will make it all better.

sounds like it wasn't a great weekend for mavericks at the track. i ran the first time run at firebird in phoenix and had a .520 light and a 13.344 et. second run, .509 light and 13.342 et. had high hopes until the big red light came on .487, ran 13.25et. other guy had a .632 lght. how do you say #$@%^&^. oh well theres a three day race in tucson next weekend. should get lots of practice. come home sunday and get the trailer ready to leave on tuesday the 8th for the division 7 et finals in fallon nevada.
p.s. dan, thats why i never drive to the track. love that enclosed trailer

Gee, I am sorry my car and it's backyard built 302 does not meet your expectations. In case you can't figure correctly a 1000ft is 320ft short of a 1/4 mile. Did you build your engine and car yourself? Do you use the cheaters nitrous? Normally I take comments like yours with a grain of salt but when they come from people that are perched on a hill a little higher than us normal folks, it gets my goat. The young kids coming into racing with stock engines etc. are always given encouragement even though they are a little slower than some others. It's called encouragement and consideration. I think your car is a jewel and probably real quick but your head is a little bit larger than I can stomach. At 62 years old I've seen a lot of like you and most are very lonely people. Have a nice day, I know I will.

dude kick back... I was just saying i was a bit confused and because of the mph time... hell if your car does 9's heck thats great! Probably faster then my bule car! and heck even if it runs only 50 mph and runs 9's heck thats even better. I just thought it was a 1/8 run with the mph until I read the whole thing. Just was noticing... not accusing you of anything! My gosh!

Just for your info the car of which you speak of aint on Nitrous and the motor that was in it previously ran in the high 12's all motor... which I might add that I built in the backyard. Just to clear things up.

So please take what i said with a grain of salt cuz didn't mean to sound like an ass. Again just was making an observation... Just like when top fuel guys run 8 secs even though they shut down and run only 100 mphs. Thats still Damn Fast! Thats the point I was making!

If your 62 years or 16 years old, hell i don't care.... if you own a Maverick thats a beater or if its a Maverick worth 50k... I'd give a thumbs up.

And the statment about my big head and being lonely was uncalled for. By me stating and responing with rude rebutles aren't going to make things better here.

Had a wonderful day until I read this..

    Regards.
