Hi Everybody. I just bought my first Comet and thought i would give everybody a look at it. I am new to the forum and i am looking for ideas on what to do with it. It is a 1971 302, 3speed stick, 127k miles. No other options. The car is in pretty good shape. I got it off the original owner who lived in south carolina for the first 28 years of the comet's life so it is virtually rot free exept for the hood lip and a quarter size spot on the one quarter. Anybody know how many Comet GTs they made in 1971. I found some productions stats but nothing specific. Any ideas and info appreciated

Welcome to the board. Great looking Comet! You got a real nice car there. Glad to see another person from eastern PA on the board. I've been down to Quakertown quite a few times. Have you ever gone to the big car show that used to take place on the 4th of July in Memorial park? I know they didn,t have it this year, but I have gone to the shows in the past. Does your Comet have straight pipes or does it have cats on it?

I try and go to all the car shows around here. Hopefully with some work i'll be able to enter the comet in some. Exhaust wise it is just straight thru glasspacks. Sounds terrible but it sure is fun waking the neighbors :D

    NICE!

Nice looking GT you have there. I am glad to see more Comets showing up lately. I have been feeling like a Firebird owner at a Camaro show....'I've never seen a Camaro with a grill like that Daddy...what years is that?'

Your Comet looks very good. There are the original gas caps on e-bay quite often that will fit your Comet. The correct one for yours does not say 'COMET' under the Mercury emblem on the center of the gas cap. The emblem is just like the hood ornament by itself in the center.
1974 and up I believe have 'COMET' under the emblem.
Stripes are reproduced by several companies if you ever decide for a resto. or repaint. I bought three sets and sent two of them back. I was not happy with any of them until I got the ones from Graphics Express. They were top quality and have a website that is easy to find.

Again, nice find. If you need assistance, I'm glad to help.
