I've been looking for something like this for a while. I had a few false starts along the way, starting but never finishing any of them. This one though, I think is a keeper. 1936 Dodge pickup on a 1985 Toyota pickup frame. Plans are 302 Ford power with either a C4 or AOD tranny, Maverick 8" rear to replace the Toyota unit, Chevy S 10 tilt steering came with it, not sure yet if I'm going to use that or go aftermarket. LOTS of bodywork to do, It's been chopped about 3-4", still have to smooth the welds and finish the door tops. I want a smooth, slick body and paint job, not the flat black rat rod look. I probably gave too much for it, I traded my 84 F150 4X4 with some more stuff I had laying around that I was never going to use, but with the new wheels and tires on it I figured it was a good deal. It may take a few years to finish, but I don't care if it does. Thought I'd give a little update on my progress so far. Front end is mostly together, still have to get the coil overs, but have the ride height pretty well set now. One of the previous owners tack welded the cab subframe to the main frame, I cut it loose and moved the cab back about 6 inches. Gave it a better look, the grill is not sticking out in front of the tires now. Fixin' to start on building the cab mounts, then it gets moved under the carport to sit the engine and tranny in to build those mounts. Also may be getting a 8.8 out of a 99 Ranger. It's behind a 4.0 V6/ 5 speed, so I figure it should be geared low enough to use one of my AOD trannys. Plus, it's got a trac loc in it! Still a long way to go, and in no hurry to get there!
Another small update: Just browsing on eBay the other night, found a set of Corvette seats for the unbelievable low price of $60! Went and picked them up yesterday. The pics make them look better than they really are, so they will get new black covers when the time gets here. They fit pretty good, but I'm gonna have to lose the tracks to get the height down. This things low! The temp floor is 3/4 plywood, so when the steel goes in, it'll drop a bit, but right now, I'm sitting looking at the top of the windsheild! Losing the track nets me about another 2"-3", so that should do it.
