mystery part found in my tranny pan

    I found this in the pan when I opened it up. I cant figure out where it came from. For now I'm closing up the tranny w/o it but if someone can tell me what it is, I'd appreciate it.

    same thing happend to me the mav has gone over 250 miles with out it and no problem yet

    its a fac plug when they fill the trans they plug it then when they put the dipstick in at the dealer it knocks it in the pan till someone changes the fluid

    Thanks, good to know. Guess its been 26 years since the fluid's been changed!:D ....or someone just kept putting it back.

    You can also find then in an AOD. If there found in this day and age, either the trans has low miles (under 50k or so) or the fluid and filter have not been change from new.

    i found one in my pan the other day. the stem was about 5 in. long. i was told it was a factory plug. 90k on the speedo. 250k sounds like some kind of record to go without a tranny service...frank...

    I have run across many of those in my time. When I saw the subject of the post I immediately knew what you were talking about. I managed a Quick Lube for a few years and several employees had never seen those before, usually scared them cuz they thought they broke something.

    I found the same part in a 69 c-4 the stem was about 4 in long though.I was also wondering what it was but since i wasnt using that trans i wasnt worried.

    Found one in mine too after 30 years. The factory manual addresses it. Dumb way to do it, but what the heck.
