    Hey all,
I recently got my 302 in, and i'm in need of a crank and water pump pulley. To make a long story short, i only have the crank/water pump/alternator, and the pulleys i have are for a car with power steering...therefore my water pump is being overdriven, and causing me to lose a few precious horsepower!

Does anyone have a set which would work for a car with only a waterpump and an alternator for accessories?

    Thanks!

CA, why do you say the water pump is being overdriven ? The only conventional way to change the speed of the water pump is to change the diameter of either the crank pulley or the water pump pulley. If both of those pullies came off of the same car, I don't think you have a problem.

    Hi,
I'd rather not go with the march pulleys. Sure, they'd be nice...but i could do a lot more with a hundred something dollars than put a shiney set of pulleys on.

The water pump is being overdriven because it is currently running off the groove that's designed for the alternator...the groove behind it on the crank is the one that's designed for the water pump, but it is also supposed to go to the power steering pump (which i don't have, and subsequently is used as a tensioner in that setup). The only way that i've made this current setup work is to use a water pump pulley off a Buick engine...correct diameter, different spacing. However, it is still running off the largest pulley on the crank.

    Overdriven?

Not sure I understand what you mean about the water pump being overdriven. If the water pump is running a little faster wouldn't that be fantastic with a rebuilt 302 that can tend to run a little hotter? Is there any problem running the pump a little faster?

It is hard for me to believe it will eat up any horsepower. If you don't have power steering, wouldn't it be best to run one belt to connect the crank, alternator and water pump?
