I've got my donor car and now I'm gearing up for the rebuild of the 302. I think I'm gonna go with 351 W heads worked over by the local shop.
My questin concerns exhauts manifolds... I don't know if I'm ready to wrestle with headers or not. Will the 351W exhaust manifolds fit, and if they do, will they flow better than the 302 manifolds that are on the engine now? Does anyone know if there are ways to get the stock manifolds to flow better?
Thanks, and I hope this is not an "Exhausted" issue , I searched and couldn't find much. :D

351W manifolds may or may not fit depending what application they were originally on. I've seen people port cast iron manifolds, there's a lot of material that can be removed. Some even have them Extrude Honed. But they'll never flow as good as even a cheap set of headers. If you have a 302, headers are an easy fit. I have a set of Jet-Hot coated Blackjacks. The driver's side fits right up from the bottom and the passenger side can be dropped in from the top.

    Tell me more...

What does your car have as far as options: air, pwr steering, etc....

What is Extruded honed ( I think I got that right )...Thanks for the help.

No options, no air, no PS. Extrude Hone is where they force abrasive "putty" through manifolds and other engine parts to open them up. It's very precise and gets into areas that normal machining sometimes can't reach. Go to http://www.extrudehone.com/powerflow.html

    Black Jack Headers

Was wondering if these headers will install the same with a C4 rather than the T5 you have. I have always used Heddman on my three Mav's and always had to raise the engine a few inches to get them in easily. Always looking for a better way don't you know. The extruded hone process claims to have very good results also and may be a good choice for street or show cars etc.

Not sure about clearance with a C4. I would imagine the bell area is the problem. I'm running a Lakewood bellhousing which is a good bit larger than stock.

Column shifted cars have header clearance problems.

    That's what I'm talkin about...

My car is colum shift and I would like to keep the power steering...I really interested in pursuing the stock manifold route. What about other size engine manifolds might fit ??
The extruded honing looks interesting, but expensive, unless there are other places that do it.
Does anybody have any flow numbers on all the manifolds?

Maybe I'm just chasing my tail, but thanks for the input.
