I had recently pulled the engine in my mav(74'2dr-302/c4)to swap heads and install a new stall converter and a few other goodies, heres my story,I left the tranny in the car and I'm replacing the exhaust manifolds with hedmann long tubes 88-300 can I still get the starter in and bolted on with the headers on(the front tires are on ramps,so turning the wheels to clear the centerlink is NOT an option)or would I be better off to lower the engine get the tranny and starter bolted up then reraise the engine slightly and try to get the headers in? I planned on setting the headers in the engine bay ,then lowering the engine in. If this won't work wich way is the best to install the headers from the top down or do I have to stuff them in from the bottom(I do have a B&M floor shifter installed so colum linkage is gone.) any info would be greatly appericated!
I would leave the headers out while you drop the motor in. Bolt up everything including the starter. The right side header will slip right in from the bottom. You will have to jack the engine back up a little to get the left one in from the bottom. This way has always worked well for me.
thanks for the advice! either the engines going in today or the rearend, thats out too! I just bought a 3.80 w/detroit locker.can't wait to get er up and runnin again!
